A never ending string of pearls – Carlos Castaneda

Loving this world, seeing the beauty in everything.
Appreciating every moment as a beautiful, wholly contained,
pearl of eternal nature, this is the world to me.

A never ending string of pearls…. every moment is in and of it’s self a life time,
and when we have affection and let ourselves experience life without expectation…
that is when the majesty of the world opens her petals to us…
And welcomes us home.

~ Carlos Castaneda

Love is Life – Leo Tolstoy

“Love is life.

All, everything that I understand,

I understand only because I love.

Everything is, everything exists,

only because I love.

Everything is united by it alone.

Love is God, and to die means that I,

a particle of love, shall return to the general

and eternal source.”

“Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair” – G.K. Chesterton

The Lady of Shallot (Garden Rose)

The Lady of Shallot (Garden Rose)

One sees great things from the valley, small things from the peak.

The true object of human life is play; the earth is a task garden, heaven a playground.

Religion has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found difficult and not tried.

When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you have taken things for granted or taken things with gratitude.

A room without books is like a body without soul.

Art like morality means drawing the line somewhere.

One may understand the cosmos but never the ego, the self is more distant than any star.

The only way to catch a train is to miss the one before it.

Education is simply the soul of society as it passes from one generation to another.

Let your religion be less of a theory and more of a love affair.

“Earth laughs in flowers” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Amalfi Coast - Above Positano, June '14

The Amalfi Coast – Above Positano, June ’14

I’ve been reading a little Ralph recently and here are some snapshots of wisdom:

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.

What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.

The age of a woman doesn’t mean a thing. The best tunes are played on the oldest fiddles.

Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding.

The only way to have a friend is to be one.

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

Always do what you are afraid to do.

A man is what he thinks about all day long.

Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.

Earth laughs in flowers.

A great man is always willing to be little.

All mankind loves a lover.

Trust men and they will be true to you, treat them greatly and they will show themselves great.

Common sense is genius dressed in its work clothes.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Some Thoughts on Yoga and Yoga Asana

Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured. (B.K.S. Iyengar)

Teach what is in you, not as it applies to you, to yourself, but as it applies to the other. (T. Krishnamacharya)

Before you’ve practised, the theory is useless. After you’ve practised, the theory is obvious.

Crave for a thing, you will get it. Renounce the craving and the object will follow you by itself. (Swami Sivananda)

The difference between yoga and bodybuilders is that bodybuilders have a body of a bull and the heart of gazelle – and yogis the heart of a bull and the body of a gazelle. (Sri Kartakeya)

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have. (Swami Chidananda)

When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds:
Your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great, and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be. (Patanjali)

The pose begins when you want to leave it.

Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked. (Yoga Sutras)

In the lamp of the heart; put the oil of dispassion, insert the wick of devotion, and kindle the light of knowledge, by constant meditation; The darkness of ignorance will be dispelled and you will be fully illumined. (Swami Sivananda)

Do your practice, the rest is coming. (Patthabi Jois)

Brahma – Ralph Waldo Emerson

‘I believe in eternity’

If the red slayer think he slays,
Or if the slain thinks he is slain,
They know not well the subtle ways
I keep, and pass, and turn again.

Far or forgot to me is near;
Shadow and sunlight are the same;
The vanquished gods to me appear;
and one to me are shame and fame.

They reckon ill who leave me out;
When me they fly, I am the wings;
I am the doubter and the doubt,
And I the hymn the Bramhin sings.

The strong gods pine for my abode,
And pine in vain the sacred Seven;
But thou, meek lover of the good!
Find me, and turn thy back on heaven.

———

There is one mind common to all individuals.

We know that the ancestor of action is thought…..The rich mind lies in the sun and sleeps, and is Nature.  To think is to act….Action and inaction are alike to the true.

Every soul must know the whole lesson itself…..what it does not see, what it does not live, it will not know…..

Nothing is secure but life, transition, the emerging spirit.

Live ever in a new day.  Let us be poised, and wise, and our own, today.

Everything good is on the highway.

Speech, like writing, is a regrettable necessity.

R.W.E.

Do you want to be the creator or the victim? – An evening with Ram Dass

“Let’s trade in all our judging for appreciating. Let’s lay down our righteousness and just be together.”

“Treat everyone you meet like God in drag.”

“The spiritual journey is individual, highly personal. It can’t be organized or regulated. It isn’t true that everyone should follow one path. Listen to your own truth.”

“What you meet in another being is the projection of your own level of evolution.”

“If you think you’re free, there’s no escape possible.”

Worth a watch just for the crochet story alone…….

“We’re all just walking each other home.”

“It is important to expect nothing, to take every experience, including the negative ones, as merely steps on the path, and to proceed.”

“The heart surrenders everything to the moment. The mind judges and holds back.”

“In most of our human relationships, we spend much of our time reassuring one another that our costumes of identity are on straight.”

“As long as you have certain desires about how it ought to be you can’t see how it is.”

“Be here now.”

Ram Dass
